Google Nexus 7 2 Release Date in July? Parts Begin to Ship

The Google Nexus 7 2 release date could be set for July.

A Taiwanese supplier of integrated circuitry for electronics known as Elan Microelectronics began shipping touchscreen controllers for the next generation Nexus 7 tab, according to a new report from DigiTimes.

Elan's revenues have increased in May and June thanks to these new Nexus 7 controllers. This information points to the device being manufactured in June in preparation for a July launch.

The new Nexus 7 2 tablet is rumored to be launching with Android 4.3, JellyBean pre-installed. Other rumored specs for the device include a Snapdragon 600 processor and a 1920 x 1200 display. The price is expected to remain the same as the first generation.

The tablet was thought to have appeared in a recent promotional video for Google Hangouts. However, a Google representative confirmed to 9to5 Google that this was not any Nexus 7 model.

"That's not the new Nexus 7 … if hypothetically there was such a thing," said the rep.

About 20 seconds into the video, a tablet is shown that looks almost identical to the original Nexus aside from the fact that this version has a notification light. The current version does not feature this light, which lead many watchers to believe that Google might have left the successor in the video by accident.

Google announced last week that Hangouts will now be available cross platform, meaning it will work on iOS, Android and the desktop well web. The promotional video that also featured the Nexus 4 is where this mysterious tablet made its appearance. It could have been left in the video because Google originally intended to unveil it at Google I/O. However, its release has still not been confirmed by the company.
