Google Nexus 8 Release Date Touted for August 2014 Launch

Google is prepping to release its next Android tablet, the Nexus 8. Google's last Android tablet was the Nexus 7 and was released in 2012. The Nexus 7 is considered to be one of the best Android tablets in the market but now it remains to be seen if the Nexus 8 can do even better.

There were rumors before that the Nexus 8 was going to be announced in July during the I/O 2014 Developer's Conference. The tablet was not announced, however, and from that point on it was uncertain when the device was ever going to be announced or released.

Right now, there is speculation that the Nexus 8 will be released on Aug. 19 in New York City in an event held by HTC. This only reinforces the rumors that the next Google tablet was going to be manufactured by HTC.

HTC was working on an 8.9-inch tablet called HTC Volantis and was expected to release the device in an upcoming HTC event. The Volantis could be released Aug. 19 as well, or could be released under the name Nexus 8.

Aside from the potential release of the Nexus 8/Volantis during the HTC event, it is also rumored that the company will officially showcase their own wearable Smartwatch device called HTC One Wear. The device will be in direct competition with LG's G Wear and Samsung's Galaxy Gear. The One Wear is prepped for launch in September.

The Nexus 8 is rumored to come with the newest Android L.
