Google Nexus 8, 9 Release Date Latest: Nexus 9 Looking More Likely Than Nexus 8, HTC Partner Manufacturer

Google has been busy recently with the development of their new devices, the Nexus 8 and the Nexus 9. While the two are different devices to be manufactured by different companies, both devices will be tablets to replace the Nexus 7.

The Nexus 8 is expected in the next few months and the Nexus 9 is currently being worked on by HTC and is codenamed "Volantis" but neither will be released by Google, meaning only one of the either will be seeing the retail shelves.

A new product was expected from Google during the Google I/O conference in June earlier this year but no tablet was unveiled during that time. There are speculations that the Nexus 9 is being developed by HTC.

HTC is also expected to be a partner for the Nexus 8 but with rumors going around about HTC's involvement with the Nexus 9, it won't be surprising if Google decides to release only one of them.

HTC is planning to hold an event on Oct. 8 and it would likely be where they will be announcing whether or not they are making the next Nexus tablet for Google. The search engine, giant on the other hand, could instead release the tablet alongside its release of the next Android OS, the Android L (or Android 5.0).

The Nexus 9 possibility is looking to be more likely as nVidia has confirmed in a document that the Nexus 9 is coming in the fourth-quarter of 2014 and will be sporting the Tegra K1 processor by nVidia.

The Oct. 8 HTC event in New York also supports the release date but more than likely, the event will be used to release a smartphone, namely the recently unveiled Desire 820.
