Google Nexus Prime Release Date: Device Will Not Launch Next Week

Those anxiously awaiting the debut of the Google Nexus Prime smartphone might have to stay patient a little longer since Samsung and Google announced that the device will not debut at next week’s Mobile Unpacked event.

Both companies issued a statement regarding the smartphone’s release.

“Samsung and Google decide to postpone the new product announcement at CTIA Fall. We agree that it is just not the right time to announce a new product. New date and venue will be shortly announced.”

Aside from bad timing, the companies offered little information on how they came to this decision.

The Google Nexus Prime smartphone was originally supposed to launch on October 12, during the CTIA conference, just two days before the official release of the iPhone 4S.

The conference will run from October 11 to the 13 at San Diego’s Convention Center.

The new Nexus smartphone is expected to be one of the first devices running on Android 4.0 better known as Ice Cream Sandwich.

Ice Cream Sandwich will implement both tablet and smartphone features.

Along with running the new Google software, the Nexus Prime will be sporting some impressive hardware including Samsung’s 1.5 GHz dual-core Exynos chip, a 720p native display, an eight megapixel camera with an all-new, improved sensor, and full HD video recording.

Google’s chairman Eric Schmidt stated in the summer that the first Ice Cream Sandwich devices would arrive by November.

Various specs on the Nexus smartphone have hit the internet this past week.

Originally the smartphone was expected to include a 5-megapixel camera, but a new spec list provided by GSMArena shows the device having an 8-megapixel camera.

The likely of the two is probably 8-megapixels since the new smartphone will have to compete with other handsets already sporting this kind of hardware including the iPhone 4S.
