Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL Review: On the Missing Headphone Jack and What Makes It Different From Other Smartphones

Considering the competition in the smartphone market, companies are working hard to make sure that they bring the fastest, most powerful, and unique device to the consumers. Although Apple and Samsung are currently dominating the market with their groundbreaking flagships, Google was hoping to attract their own fans with the announcement of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL.

Revealed just recently, here are what critics have to say about the search giant's latest addition to their smartphone lineup.

According to an in-depth discussion from Android Headlines, perhaps the most notable aspect of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is their attempt at adding a factor that will make it stand out from its competitors. Their flagship now comes with Active Edge. Although this feature was first seen in the HTC U11, it is still a feature that not many phones have. Furthermore, the early verdict of the camera is that it may just stand as the best, even with Apple's iPhone 8 and 8 Plus, as well as Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.

Although it may be too early to determine the drawbacks of the Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, there are two things that are immediately obvious to the fans. First, the Google Pixel 2 XL is priced at $849, which is about $50 more than the iPhone 8 Plus. Given that Google's flagship is not equipped with the same futuristic processor as Apple's, the price had fans reconsidering if they really wanted a device that is significantly slower than the iPhone 8 Plus.

Aside from the unexpected hike in the price tag, another drawback is that Google has removed the headphone jack that they had previously claimed as necessary for smartphone users. The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL no longer has support for the hardware, as they have also begun selling their own Pixel Buds to match that of Apple's AirPods.

The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL is scheduled to land in stores on Oct. 19.
