South Carolina Republican Anthony Culler, who is challenging incumbent Democratic Rep. James Clyburn of the 6th district has come under fire from his party and other conservatives for branding same-sex couples as "gremlins" who "want to destroy our way of life."

Culler publicized his views Monday via a 7-minute video posted on his Facebook page where he had posted a lengthy message earlier on Oct. 14.

"Same-sex 'marriage' is a pestilence that has descended on our society, against our will, by those in the courts and government that do not value the traditional family. These people, like my opponent SC-6 Congressman Jim Clyburn who OPENLY supports same-sex 'marriage,' seek to destroy the traditional family and the values we cherish," noted Culler in the post.

"This has been allowed to happen because the groups and individuals pushing this evil are louder, bolder, more organized and determined than the individuals and groups that believe in tradition families," he said.

"For years this insidious plan has been in the works and it has been systematically implemented with the principals paying little attention to set-backs and delays. They have demonstrated a stronger resolve and THEY HAVE WON!" he declared.

"If you believe in traditional families and that marriage is defined as an institution between one man and one woman then I ask that you start acting like it and START VOTING like it! Do not buy the 'cuteness' and 'What will it hurt?' arguments whispered in your ears and marketed to our children. Same-sex couples that seek to destroy our way of life and the institution of marriage are NOT cute and cuddly but rather (for those of you that are old enough to remember the movie), Gremlins that will only destroy our way of life," he added.

"These people are bullies and now that they are winning their true and hateful nature is much easier to see and hear," he said.

According to TIME, Culler has little chance of unseating the 11-term congressman Clyburn in his predominantly Democratic district. South Carolina GOP chairman Matt Moore denounced Culler's behavior saying "most people learned in kindergarten not to call other people names."

He further added: "Our party believes in the conservative definition of marriage, but we also believe in loving our neighbors and treating them with respect … Mr. Culler's desperate, attention-seeking antics in no way represent the good, decent South Carolinians I've met across our state."

In a statement released Tuesday, Concerned Women for America CEO and president, Penny Nance echoed similar sentiments.

"Concerned Women for America (CWA) stands proudly in support of traditional marriage. However, neither side should engage in unkind, foolish verbal vomit. Anthony Culler has neither the temperament nor the judgment to thoughtfully represent the good people of the 6th district of South Carolina, and he certainly doesn't represent the millions of Americans who support traditional marriage," said Nance.

"CWA calls on both sides of this debate to show respect and humility in sharing our strongly held beliefs. As Americans, we should be able to debate this issue in a civil tone, making the case for our beliefs without being treated as 'a pestilence,' a 'gremlin,' or a 'bigot.' There are thoughtful people making high-level arguments for the importance of traditional marriage and against. Name callers distract and marginalize both perspectives," she added.
