GoPro Hero 5 Rumors 2016: New Camera Designed to Fit into Karma Drone?

GoPro was present at the recently concluded CES 2016 last week. The company announced its Karma drone, which has now sparked GoPro Hero 5 rumors anew.

The latest among these rumors is the report by Crossmap saying how the GoPro Hero 5 is being designed to fit into the new GoPro Karma drone. This particular rumor boosts a previous speculation that says that GoPro plans to make the Hero 5 smaller and lighter in an effort to make it more portable and user-friendly. With a weight of "just over half a pound," the rumored camera would comply with the FAA's rules and regulations.

Crossmap further speculates that if the GoPro Hero 5 would indeed be designed to be small, portable, and fit into the Karma drone, then this would make it "the most versatile camera to be built." Rumors about the Karma drone also indicate it to have a waterproof housing, which would allow users to take pictures underwater of up to 60 to 100 meters below water surface level. Thus, the Hero 5, through the Karma drone, would be able to take pictures in land, in the air, or underwater. This would make it "the first Navy Seal-like camera," the publication says further.

As for the GoPro Karma, very little is known about the quadcopter as of the moment as it is still in the works. But for one thing, GoPro Chief Executive Officer Nick Woodman has revealed that the drone will be backward compatible, meaning it will work with older GoPro models.

"We make everything backwards compatible, our goal is that your older GoPro will work with anything new we make, and vice versa," Woodman is quoted as saying by Engadget.

GoPro Hero 5 was previously rumored to release in October last year, but now the grapevine is saying that the release date has been moved to "sometime in the early months of this year."

GoPro Hero 5 is still very much in speculation territory. Nothing is confirmed as of the moment.
