U.S. News & World Report has listed Gordon College among the nation's 160 best liberal arts colleges in its 2006 edition of “America's Best Colleges.”

As a Christian college of the liberal arts and sciences in Wenham, Mass., Gordon College is the only nationally ranked Christian College in New England and one of only seven Christian colleges in the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities ranked nation-wide.

“Gordon places a significant emphasis on academic quality as well as Christian faith,” said Gordon College President R. Judson Carlberg in a statement released on Nov. 4. “It's gratifying to see Gordon positioned year after year among the country's premier institutions.”

Of all categories ranked by U.S. News & World Report's 2006 edition of “America 's Best Colleges,” the liberal arts listing is considered among the most competitive. U.S. News & World Report assesses hundreds of liberal arts colleges based on several key measures of quality including academic peer assessment, faculty resources, graduation and retention rate, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving and graduation rate performance. To be included among the final list, schools must emphasize undergraduate education and award at least half of their degrees in the liberal arts.

Founded in 1889 as a missionary training school, Gordon College is the only nondenominational Christian college in Massachusetts. Gordon attracts students from across the nation and offers academic excellence, Christian community and an atmosphere of open intellectual inquiry and personal responsibility-all within the framework of Christian faith.

“By fostering academic freedom and Christian character, Gordon helps to cultivate minds that envision new possibilities, and hearts that serve,” according to the private, four-year liberal arts college.

Gordon has been recognized by the John Templeton Foundation's The Templeton Guide: Colleges That Encourage Character Development and has also received acclamation from the Princeton Review's Best Northeastern Colleges, and the Fiske Guide to Colleges named Gordon as one of "300 best and most interesting colleges."

In recent years, Gordon has received constantly strong rankings within the liberal arts category of U.S. News & World Report's “America’s Best Colleges.”
