Gracie Gold's twin sister, Carly Gold, will be cheering on her sister on Wednesday as she competes in the Winter Olympics 2014 Ladies' Figure Skating Short Program. Gold has quickly become the face of ice skating in the United States, but she has a secret weapon going into Sochi – her best friend, Carly.
Carly was seen supporting Gracie at the TD Garden in Boston last month as her twin competed in the U.S. Championships. Carly seemed even more nervous than her sister, who was a four minute performance from making the team to the Winter Olympics.
After Gracie won her first U.S. national title, Carly took to Twitter to post, "Speechless."
Carly - just 40 minutes younger than her twin – has been one of her sister's main supporters as she has embarked on a dramatic year, which has seen her work tirelessly to make it to Sochi.
Carly arrived with Gracie Gold just a few days ahead of her performance in the team event free skate, and has been side by side with her for much of her time there.
Speaking to NBC, Gracie's mom, Denise, spoke about their journey to the Winter Olympics: "It's been such a long journey when I look back. It was all a question of was this something she really wanted to try and do. There were a lot of painful times, but we made it through."
Speaking about her relationship with Gracie, Carly has said, "For Gracie, having someone she could talk to freely and whenever she wanted to was really helpful I think. It helped her get out some of her anxieties. With me, she doesn't have to think about everything around her."
Carly shared a room with Gracie during the U.S. National competition, and helped her mentally prepare for the event. She is also someone who can understand her in ways many other friends may not – Carly herself is also a national-level figure skater.
No doubt, Carly will be cheering on her twin sister, Gracie Gold on Wednesday as she competes in the Winter Olympics 2014 Ladies' Figure Skating Short Program, which can be watched online through free live stream – details can be found by clicking here.
