'Gran Turismo Sport' News: Internet Connection Will Be a Requirement Most of the Time, Offline Offerings Still Included

'Gran Turismo Sport' players will only need a PlayStation Plus subscription for online multiplayer

The "always online" requirement has become more of a thing in this modern age of gaming, and it looks like there will be at least one more new title that will be featuring that as well in the form of "Gran Turismo Sport."

SCEA product manager Ken Chan recently authored a new post on the PlayStation Blog that highlighted some of the things fans should know about ahead of the game's arrival.

According to the post, the game "will require an internet connection for the majority of functionality." The post further noted that the internet connection was needed so that several game elements such as car availability, driver ratings and progress could be tracked accurately. Fairness had also been cited as a reason for why the upcoming game was calling on players to be online most of the time.

Not all fans are embracing this revelation with open arms, and some of them have even shared that they will pass on getting "Gran Turismo Sport" altogether because of it.

The "always online" thing has previously been a controversial topic among gamers so it should come as no surprise that it is turning off some people again.

It is worth noting, however, that there are still parts of the upcoming racing game players can enjoy even if they are not online.

"Portions of the Arcade Mode" will remain accessible even when players are not online such as a limited version of two-player split screen. Players can also continue to take on time trials and race along some tracks without an internet connection. More details about which tracks will continue to be accessible even while offline should be made available soon.

A PlayStation Plus subscription is also only required of players if they want to participate in online multiplayer races.

Racing game aficionados will be able to get "Gran Turismo Sport" for the PS4 starting Oct. 17.
