Green Bay Packers Look to Adding More Running Backs

The Green Bay Packers were right in the middle of the pack when it comes to rushing yards per game last season. They managed to re-sign Christine Michael last week and Ty Montgomery could stay at running back, but they released James Starks and lost Eddie Lacy to the Seattle Seahawks this offseason.

Packers general manager Ted Thompson spoke with reporters at the annual league meetings in Phoenix, Arizona on Monday and he admitted that they need to add more depth at the position.

"We need some more guys. We're a little short in a couple of areas. So from a personnel standpoint, we've got to get some more bodies. But we like the guys that we have, it's just that we'd like to get some more," Thompson said, according to ESPN. "We've got a little time here to get some more [running backs]," he continued.

Will the Packers pursue former Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson? Is he one of their options? Well, Thompson refuses to say.

"We don't talk about players that are not on our team. We never have. We never will. It doesn't serve a purpose, I don't think," he stated during the interview.

Montgomery did really well after changing positions last season, but the Packers clearly have to add more running backs. What's going to happen if one of them gets sidelined with an injury? They can go after Jamaal Charles and/or LeGarrette Blount if they want to add a veteran or two to their roster, or they can address the issue via the draft.

The Packers have the 29th overall pick in the draft and a lot of running back prospects should still be available when it's their time to pick. Observers have already noted that Christian McCaffrey should fit right in with the Packers. Dalvin Cook and Corey Clement are options as well.
