'Guardians of The Galaxy' News: 'Deus Ex' Developers Turn Focus on New Marvel Franchise Video Game

Recent reports have it that "Deus Ex" developer Eidos Montreal, a Canadian subsidiary of Square Enix, is changing the order on its list of priorities to work on a video game project for Marvel's "Guardians of The Galaxy" franchise.

According to Kotaku, sources have reached out to them and shared the information that Eidos Montreal is setting aside any plans for a sequel to follow "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" that debuted last year.

As seen in the report, sources are positive that the pool of developers focused on working on the "Deus Ex" franchise was dispersed to two separate projects - the "Shadow of the Tomb Raider" and the "Guardians of the Galaxy."

However, news about these video game projects need to be taken with a pinch of salt since Square Enix or Eidos Montreal have yet to confirm their existence.

The rumored "Guardians of the Galaxy" video game surfaced shortly after Square Enix announced their collaboration with Marvel Entertainment to bring out several titles in the coming years, starting with "The Avengers."

On the other hand, Eurogamer reports that Eidos Montreal will not completely abandon "Deus Ex." The studio maintains that they will continue to develop the franchise, however, it will be limited to downloadable contents and standalone episodes.

The same report recounted that Eidos Montreal announced the "Deus Ex Universe" in 2013, which is practically a roadmap for the continuous development of the franchise. So, a third "Deus Ex" title is in order but not anytime soon.

Plans might have changed since the 2013 announcement, especially when "Deus Ex: Mankind Divided" failed to perform as expected in the market.

On the other hand, Eidos Montreal maintained that they remain committed to developing "Deus Ex Universe" and told Eurogamer: "While we are still working on expanding the Deus Ex Universe, along with creating new content and updates for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, we're also devoting our talents towards working with Crystal Dynamics and Marvel on The Avengers project."
