'Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2' News: Director Steps In To Clear Up Star-Lord Father Rumors

Has the biggest "Guardians of the Galaxy" mystery just been solved? Not if you ask the film's director.

Responding to a recent rumor about "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," director James Gunn went on his official Facebook page, saying, "The rumors surrounding Quill's parentage at the present moment are completely false, and aren't even close to the truth."

After the blockbuster film was released in 2014, Marvel fans were left to speculate on the identity of Peter Quill's father.

Heroic Hollywood's Umberto Gonzalez, who has previously secured some major Hollywood scoops, including the report that "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow will direct "Star Wars: Episode IX," believes he knows the answer.

"Off the bat, let me tell you that it ain't Thanos, Loki, Star-Fox, Adam Warlock, Yondu or The Collector," Gonzalez said in a video posted Tuesday on his blog. He added: "According to four of my independent sources, in fact, four individuals who do not know each other tell me that Peter Quill's father is none other than Captain Marvel."

But this latest spoiler runs counter to known details about the "Guardians" films. "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn has previously denied that Captain Marvel will be in the sequel.

"He's correct," said Gonzalez in the video, "Because he's talking about Carol Danvers." Gonzalez explained that the Captain Marvel who will supposedly be revealed as Peter Quill's father is the original Captain Marvel, also known as Mar-Vell. In the Marvel Comics, Mar-Vell was a Kree superhero who was sent to spy on Earth but eventually became its protector, adopting the name Captain Marvel. Carol Danvers was one of the heroes he inspired. Danvers inherited Mar-Vell's powers after an explosion that melded her genetic structure to his.

But Gunn, who is set to direct "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," was quick to disprove the announcement made by Gonzalez.

In his social media account, the director also announced that he will henceforth refrain from commenting on rumors about the upcoming film, explaining that eventually someone will reveal a spoiler close to the truth. He slammed people trying to divulge plot spoilers, saying that leaking plot details takes away from the audience's movie experience, and commended those who do not participate in "this sort of thing."

Gunn concluded: "We're creating a film that doesn't rely on plot twists to be an enjoyable experience. They're only a very small part of what we're cooking up for you."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2" is set for a May 5, 2017 release.
