Halo Spartan Assault Co-op Provides Frantic Teamwork and Strategy Against the Flood

Halo: Spartan Assault will have an intense co-op mode that puts gamers familiar with the series in an all new type of fire fight.

The game's matches take a lot of strategy and teamwork by whoever the gamer is player with as the enemies come in different waves of varying degrees of difficulty. Polygon reported that the demo was "frantic" and "chaotic" but overall a unique experience.

"If you look at the kind of shooter this is, bringing back the Flood and adding an extra player is a very different experience to the main campaign, but one that's very complementary," lead designer at 343 Industries Mike Ellis said to Polygon. "The idea being we wanted to emphasize people sticking together and co-operating and complementing each other's attributes. So if one person is using a short-range weapon against the Flood, I would use the long-range weapon to take care of the big guys. We can stand on the turrets together in order to maximize our fire power."

The game brings back familiar enemies, the Flood and Covenant. The Flood is fought on co-op while single player pits the gamer against the Covenant.

"Just having the Flood themselves made for a very different type of gameplay. It's more about holding the tide and not being overwhelmed, versus fighting the Covenant in the single-player campaign, who are a more considered enemy who will take cover to try to preserve themselves in a way the Flood won't," Ellis continued.

Halo: Spartan Assault for the Xbox 360 has been pushed back from its initial release date of December 24 to January 2014. However, the Xbox One version will still arrive on Christmas Eve for $14.99 Microsoft said.

The game is a top down third person shooter that is for download only, and was originally supposed to be only for Windows 8 PC's, tablets, and phones reports Polygon. If purchased on the computer, for $4.99 those gamers can also have the Xbox One version.

"Halo: Spartan Assault is coming to the Xbox One and Xbox 360 this December with a new online Co-op mode that brings the Flood into the fray. But with new content comes new achievements, and below you'll find the achievement lists for Xbox One and Xbox 360. We've broken up the Gamerscore points for which achievements are new to Halo: Spartan Assault, which are exclusive to the Xbox One version, and the original Halo: Spartan Assault achievements from the Windows 8/Windows Phone version making their way over to the console versions," HaloWayPoint posted on their site a month ago.
