Then he said to his disciples, "Let us go back to Judea."

"But Rabbi," they said, "a short while ago the Jews tried to stone you, and yet you are going back there?"

Jesus answered, "Are there not twelve hours of daylight? A man who walks by day will not stumble, for he sees by this world's light. It is when he walks by night that he stumbles, for he has no light."

Jesus' disciples were worried about Him. The Jews in Judea had just tried to stone Him, and now He was going back! But Jesus knew that as long as He was walking in the light of His Father's will, He had nothing to fear.

Interesting, isn't it? Say you've got a serious problem in your life - finances, employment, loneliness, illness. All of these things can, at times, be great sources of fear. If we are living lives that do not reflect our Christian beliefs, if we are seeking to solve the problems on our own rather than depending upon God to fight our battles for us, we have plenty to fear.

For instance, if we try to solve our financial problems by cheating or stealing, we'll eventually pay the consequences. If we're trying to solve our employment problems by lying or other devious means, we'll eventually pay the consequences. If we're trying to solve our loneliness problems by spending our evenings in bars, we'll eventually pay the consequences. If we're trying to solve our marriage problems by having affairs on the side, we'll eventually pay the consequences. If our lifestyle caused our illness, we are paying the consequences.

However, and that's a BIG however, if we are walking the straight path of God's will, no matter what the external circumstances of our lives, we have nothing to fear. Our Lord will guide us and protect us and provide for us. All we have to do is trust and to center our lives on Him; He will take care of the rest.

"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin." 1 John 1:5-7 NIV
