Heidi Klum has broken her silence about her separation from husband Seal. In a new interview, she explains why she has been so quiet throughout the ordeal.

It's only been two months since the dynamic couple split, and while Seal has talked with the media about his experience and feelings, Klum has remained stoic and quiet. In a new interview with Elle magazine, though, she explains her reasoning for keeping a low profile.

"I feel like I'm in the eye of a tornado," she says. "Sometimes I think a curveball just comes at you. Instead of something straight that you can catch, it hits you in the head from the side that you didn't expect."

"I'm a lioness and I have four cubs. I'm a mom. I want to take care of my kids and protect them. I don't want to talk about them, or him, or me," she explained. Klum's four children include Leni, a child from Klum's previous marriage. She and Seal have two sons, Henry and Johan, and a daughter, Lou.

While many assumed her last marriage was a match made in heaven, Klum reveals that things were not always as they seemed.

"To the outside world, you don't really share all the things that happen. You kind of share just the most amazing sides," she said.

That includes the annual renewing of vows the couple was famous for. Each year they would choose a different theme in which guests participated.

"But I don't really want to get into any of that stuff," she told Elle. "With my life, my family, my business-I want to go forward. I feel like already there are so many things being said about us- about him, about me. I'm not going to comment."

Seal, however, has repeatedly spoken to the media, giving his side of the story, which Klum will not verify or deny.

"He's a grown man," Klum allowed. "I can't tell him what to do and what not to do. It's hard. People don't need to know who did what. I don't want to talk positively or negatively about the ups and downs that we had."

For all her apparent stoicism, though, Klum wants people to know that she is not "made of stone. I'm a strong person. But I'm also a soft person; I can hurt. I'm not a robot."

The former supermodel-turned-television hostess is busy with two projects under her belt. "Project Runway" is set to return for another season, and Klum also hosts "Germany's Next Top Model."
