Hollywood Celebrity Katherine Heigl Gets It Right – Almost

December 13, 2011|9:34 am

Katherine Heigl was recently on the cover of Cosmopolitan addressing some interesting topics that ranged from one-night stands to infidelity.

In this exclusive Cosmopolitan interview, she said some notable comments, and we actually took notice when she discussed infidelity. She says, “I would forgive him. Because look at the life we’ve built together. We have history, we have a child…But at the same time, it would be really hard to ever fully trust that person again.”

Of course, we understand that the large majority of celebrities either do not hold a true Christian perspective on living pure before God, or they don’t really understand the Christian concepts, or they have flat out rejected Christ and Christianity altogether. Which is why when celebrities DO say something of value and on real fundamental purity, we take notice.

Katherine went on to say this interesting thought: “I don’t like them,” she says. “I’ve never met a single woman who has ever walked away from a one-night stand and been like ‘That was awesome! Oh, my god! Best ever!’”

We’ve come away with a few ideas to ponder in light of these statements.

First, her statement demanded a second read when she, as a celebrity, was frank and open to say how she personally never met a single women who walked away from a one-night stand with a positive experience.

With all the hoopla from movies and media about one-nighters, or in biblical terms, “pleasure in sin for a season,” you would think it would be standard knowledge that one-nighters are the ultimate fun times for the rich n’ famous. But she honestly disagreed with those notions and it is good to know this because it confirms what we know to be true – true happiness comes in a committed, loving, lasting relationship.

The other noteworthy discussion was on when a spouse messes up. This is where she “almost” gets it. Not fully, but we still give kudos where kudos is due.

She said, “I’ve been debating this lately. Josh and I always said that cheating would be a deal breaker; there is no second chance. But I’ve seen friends and acquaintances go through it and they’ve found a way back to the relationship, and a way to forgive each other. And as much as I would kill him if he cheated because it would destroy me, I have started to question whether, if a mistake were to be made and it was a one-time thing, I would forgive him. Because look at the life we’ve built together. We have history, we have a child…But at the same time, it would be really hard to ever fully trust that person again.”

Well, we must take the biblical position that there should be no infidelity. There should be no discussion of “what if,” only “how can we make our marriage last a lifetime.”

But she confesses what we already know, as a celebrity – again, kudos. She said how it would destroy her and she stressed the importance of not only forgiveness, but that the marriage was important enough to actually forgive so they can still make the marriage work – even after a disaster like that.

This is refreshing coming from a glamorized celebrity, especially since the recent attack on marriage and downing of its importance by Cameron Diaz in the tabloids.

And finally, we also see her realistic perspective that infidelity is not something to be taken lightly – even in the ethereal world of celebrity status. She said that it would be very hard to ever fully again trust a person who was unfaithful, which is a display of how important marriage is to her – at least for now.

So, we use actual celebrity verbiage to exhort and encourage married couples everywhere to make their marriages the highest priority.
