'Homeland' Season 7 News, Spoilers: 'The Good Wife' Alum Joins Cast

When "Homeland" returns for its seventh season next year, viewers are going to see a new, but also familiar, face on the show.

Dylan Baker, who previously starred in "The Good Wife," has been added to the cast of the Showtime drama as U.S. Senator Sam Paley. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is described to be an unorthodox politician from the Southwest, who will be spearheading an aggressive investigation of Elizabeth Keane's (Elizabeth Marvel) administration.

It can be recalled that the previous season ended with an assassination attempt towards President Keane, which resulted to her paranoia over internal conspiracy. She even got Saul Berenson (Mandy Patinkin) arrested and kicked lead star Carrie Mathison (Clare Danes) out of her circle.

"Homeland" has also previously added more cast members for the upcoming season. This reportedly includes Morgan Spector, who starred in "Boardwalk Empire" and the recently canceled "The Mist." He will take on the role of Carrie's old friend, Dante Allen, who will also be investigating Keane and the 200 people she has had detained.

"Rosewood" actor Mackenzie Astin has landed a recurring role in season 7 as well. He will be playing Bill, Carrie's brother-in-law, who gets employed in the Department of the Treasury under Keane's administration.

Actors Jake Weber, Linus Roache, and Maury Sterling have also been promoted as series regulars, in the series' attempt to fill the void left by a major character's death last season.

Meanwhile, since Carrie's romance with Peter Quinn (Rupert Friend) already came to an end when the latter died, it is being speculated that the introduction of Dante will lead to a budding romantic relationship between the two.

Production of the new season has started earlier this month. While there is no exact release date yet for "Homeland" season 7, the series is expected to premiere on Showtime in early 2018.
