'Until Dawn' Ready for Retail

Another horror video game is hoping to change the way gamers look at the horror video game genre. The upcoming video game "Until Dawn" which is a PlayStation 4 exclusive has recently gone gold, or it now ready for shipping to game retailers. The game's developer Supermassive Games made the announcement on Twitter, which meant that in a few weeks, the game will find its way to retailer stores.

The game is said to be different in many ways. First, it features a storyline that is very similar to those teenage slasher films that was all the rage in Hollywood in the 1980s. Thus, it features a group of eight teenagers, three girls and five boys, who belong to a clique. They are spending a night in a log cabin during wintertime to remember the anniversary of the disappearance of two of their friends, twin sisters Hannah and Beth. Unknown to all of them, they are being hunted by a serial killer. The game's objective is for the player to survive through the night.

Secondly, the game uses a new and unique in-game system called the "Butterfly Effect." This essentially meant that any decision or action made by the player is likely to cause consequences later on. The player gets to control any of the eight characters at a time and therefore can make decisions or actions accordingly, taking note that whatever decision you make is sure to haunt you later on.

According to an IGN review, the game "cleverly avoids over-explaining the consequences of your decisions" so the player was "left with a vague sense of unease" that he/she had "done the wrong thing." The player ends up questioning and rethinking each and every step. The game is also replayable, and every time it is played, a different set of results may likely come out. The game is said to have a "strict auto-save" that prevents players from going back to an earlier point in the game after a decision or action has been made.
