How to Tell What God Wants You to Do

So you have taken the bold step of living your life following Christ and doing His will. Now you're asking, "How do you know what God wants you to do?" The first step is to completely entrust your life and future to God without hesitation. Do that and the Lord will guide you always (Isaiah 58:11).

Next is to constantly pray and ask what His plans are for you. Acknowledge that He controls your life while telling Him your own plans as a gesture of surrendering your will. Always end your prayer by saying, "Thy will be done." As you spend more time with God in prayer, you will get to know His character deeply to the point that you'll know immediately if what you're doing pleases him or not.

Get rooted in His Word by reading the Bible and meditating on it daily. Remember that His Word is a lamp to your feet and a light to your path (Psalm 119:105). As you encounter everyday experiences, make the Bible the basis for your courses of action. That way, you won't get easily discouraged each time you face obstacles, knowing that He is in control.

Be sensitive to the Spirit's moving. It pays to be baptized with the Holy Spirit in this case. When you go out to the world, be sensitive to what God says through your conscience and be willing to obey. Otherwise, that same conscience will bother you if you turn from God's will.

If you follow these steps, God will use people and circumstances to reveal His plans for you. Doors will open and things will fall into place. You will be at the right place, at the right time. Make sure everyone in your workplace knows you're Christian so that God will be honored in everything you do even without opening your mouth.
