HTC News 2015: Taiwanese Manufacturer Not Doing Well in Chinese Market, Ships Only 4.75M One M9 Units

The HTC One M9 was announced a couple of months ago, and was expected to take on the other flagships in the market, particularly the Samsung Galaxy S6.

Unfortunately for HTC, most people were not impressed with some of the One M9's specs, specially that the company decided to keep the Full HD (1920 x 1080) display resolution, amidst its gaining popularity among Asian markets.

As a result of the One M9's failure, the Taiwan-based manufacturer has only shipped 4.75 million units of its flagship for the first quarter of 2015. If you think that is still a good number, the company was able to sell almost 10 million HTC One M8s last year.

In the report by China Business Journal, the company's flagship sales dropped by 43.75 percent compared to the same period last year.

Another problem for HTC is its continuing decline in the market, with its market value dropping to just $2 billion. For experts and people who have followed HTC's glory days, its market share at that time was at a high of $34 billion.

In the report by GSM Arena, HTC's midrange Desire lineup is having a difficult time penetrating the Chinese market due to more affordable handsets from local phone makers such as Xiaomi, ZTE and Meizu.

Meanwhile, HTC will be launching its One M9+ in Europe, which could make an impact on HTC's current financial standing.
