HTC One M8s Specs, Price, Features Review: HTC Set to Launch a Cheaper Version of the HTC One M8

HTC will be releasing a cheaper version of its flagship phone that was earlier released last year, the HTC One M8. Called the HTC One M8s, the phone will be initially available in Europe and there is no word yet on whether it will be available elsewhere.

The new phone comes before the release of its newest flagship phone, the HTC One M9. The One M8s, according to a report in IBNLive, is "basically a refreshed version of the One M8." One of the improvements made on this model is the processor – it now sports an octa-core Qualcomm Snagdragon 615 with 2GB of RAM. The One M8 had a dual-core processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 also with 2GB of RAM.

Another difference is the phone's camera. The One M8 had the 4 mega-pixel "Ultra-Pixel" camera but the One M8s now has a 13 mega-pixel camera sensor. It retains a secondary front facing camera as well, with 5MP. Some One M8 users had previously complained about the "Ultra-Pixel" camera performance so some reports are saying that this switch for the better.

A comparison report in Pocket-lint details the main differences and similarities between the two phones. Display-wise, both phones have the same 5-inch 1920 x 1080 pixels display. They also have the same design: a full metal unibody in the same color variants – gunmetal grey, silver and gold. The One M8s however is slightly thicker (by 20 mm) and longer (by 5 mm) than its predecessor.

There is a slight upgrade in the battery capacity, from the 2600mAh to what is now 2840mAh on the One M8s. In terms of software, the new phone will run on Lollipop 5.0 on HTC's proprietary Sense 6.0. The One M8 was launched with KitKat but eventually got the Lollipop update, so the report says they should have the same functions.

The most important difference is the price. The One M8 debuted with a price tag of £579 in 2014 and right now is still listed closer to £500. The One M8s is reported to be launching at £379 but it is not yet known where it will be available aside from the European markets. No definite release date has been given as well.
