HTC Zeta to be Company’s First Quad-Core Smartphone

The HTC Zeta will be the company’s first smartphone released with a quad-core processor, according to a recent specifications leak on technology website Engadget.

The Zeta is rumored to include a 2.5GHz quad-core processor, 1 GB of RAM, a 720p 4.5-inch display, and an 8-megapixel-rear camera capable of filming in 1080p HD.

It also sports a 1.3-megapixel camera in the front for applications, such as Skype and video calls.

“With specifications optimized for power, the HTC Zeta makes itself favorable over its previously leaked brethren HTC Edge,” said technology website 9to5 Google.

This particular 2.5GHz quad-core processor will be manufactured by Qualcomm and will be a competitor to Nvidia’s Tegra 3 chip set to release on multiple devices next year.

Engadget did not reveal what Android software the HTC Zeta will run during launch, but with the Ice Cream Sandwich source code releasing yesterday, Android 4.0 seems like the likely candidate.

HTC’s custom Sense user-interface should also make its way to the upcoming Zeta smartphone.

Details on pricing and release dates were not provided in the leak.

Other quad-core devices are set to hit and have already hit stores this year.

The ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime runs on the Nvidia Tegra 3 chip that will also be featured in the company’s PadPhone set for a 2012 release.

The Transformer Prime was the first device to include a processor with this much power.

The Galaxy Nexus was rumored to have a quad-core processor included, but those speculations were shot down when the phone was unveiled last month at Samsung and Google’s “Mobile Unpacked” event.

The iPhone 5 is also rumored to include a quad-core processing chip along with the iPad 3.
