Hunger Games 3: Mockingjay Part 1 Release Date, Spoilers: Premiere Coming November 2014; Surprises for Book Fans

Lionsgate previously announced that the final book of Suzanne Collin's hit young adult fiction will be split into two films. 'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1' is slated to hit the big screens this coming November 21, 2014. The second part, which is also helmed by director Francis Lawrence, will be released November next year.

New characters are also reported to appear in the forthcoming two films. They include Julianne Moore, who will play the "cold, calculating president of District 13," Alma Coin and Natalie Dormer will appear as Cressida.

The late actor Philip Seymour Hoffman, who plays the character of Plutarch Heavensbee, will also feature in the movie, having completed most of his scenes prior to his death.

The movie plot picks up Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) finding herself in District 13 after she dramatically destroyed the dome in the latest annual Hunger Games. Speculation has arisen that fans should expect another cliffhanger ending with Part 1 setting up the platform for the finale in Part 2.

While Collin's third book shows Katniss struggling within herself the psychological consequences brought on by previous confrontations and experiences, the loss of Peeta (Josh Hutcherson), as well as the thought of becoming the face of the rebellion; it has been confirmed that the forthcoming installment "won't be entirely somber" like the book.

Fans of the movie series will be able to witness the start of a bigger war. Entertainment Weekly quoted Lawrence saying: "There's definitely some battles. There's some of the first glimpses of real war in this movie. And the scale gets quite big. There's an atonal shift from some of the last movies, but they're still very emotional, very sweeping, [on a] grand scale with some levity and humor."

Book readers, in the meantime, will also be treated with a few surprises, although they are not entirely about major changes rather, they will "show scenes that could have been happening at different times."

"For us it's world expansion instead of changing things. I think it's exciting for the fan to see certain things. So we've been able to open the world up in this and see some new places. We get to see some new districts this time and the scope gets quite large," the 43-year-old 'I Am Legend' helmer added.

The publication, however mentioned that the love triangle between Katniss, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), and Peeta will not veer away from the book.
