Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed News: 'Vampire' Couple Recounts Journey to Parenthood

Nikki Reed has revealed that it was her husband Ian Somerhalder who decided that they ought to start a family.

While the "Twilight" actress and "The Vampire Diaries" actor have been married since April 2015, it was only recently when they became parents with the arrival of their first-born, daughter Bodhi Soleil, on July 25.

In a recent interview with Dr. Berlin's "Informed Pregnancy" podcast, the two recounted the events that led to the formation of their small family, including how they decided that it was high time for them to be parents. According to Reed, everything started during their trip to Spain in 2016, when Somerhalder did something that signaled it was time for them to procreate.

"(He) threw out all my birth control pills," Reed said in the podcast interview.

"It was the beginning of the pack, so I had to pop all those suckers out," Somerhalder added, revealing that his wife's reaction was even captured on video as he flushed the pills down the toilet.

"Actually, now thinking about it, I guess I kind of decided (to start a family)," quipped "The Vampire Diaries" actor.

In the same interview, Reed also recalled her experiences during her pregnancy, revealing that, unlike other pregnant women, she didn't experience morning sickness. According to the "Twilight" actress, rather than morning sickness, she was affected by the confusing rules and guidelines set by the medical industry that caused her a certain extent of paranoia and to be indecisive about her birthing plan.

"The birth that I always wanted was a home birth with no lights, no one talking, no intervention of any kind. I wanted to be peaceful, quiet, alone," Reed said.

Eventually, though, Reed quickly gave birth to Bodhi in a hospital, just three hours after she and Somerhalder arrived.

While Reed and Somerhalder are known for keeping their private lives private, they explained that the reason they decided to share their journey to parenthood is that they are proud of the experience more than anything else.

"And we want to do it again," declared Reed.
