Ice Cream Sandwich Android: Motorola Devices Getting New OS Six Weeks After Release

Motorola has promised its customers that handheld devices will receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update six weeks after its official release.

Motorola announced the news Tuesday on their Twitter account: "We'll be releasing devices for ICS 6 weeks after Google releases the final version of it."

Motorola also tweeted: "DROID #RAZR, #BIONIC & #XOOM will get ICS. Within 6 weeks of Google's public push, we'll confirm other devices to get ICS."

The company’s recent tweets were in direct response to a Twitter follower who was concerned about his device regarding the launch of Android’s new operating system, Ice Cream Sandwich.

Samsung's Galaxy Nexus smartphone will be the first device to receive the new operating system. The device is set to arrive in stores sometime in November.

Engadget, a technology website, also reported that Motorola's Nexus S will also be updated to Ice Cream Sandwich.

Techland worried over Motorola’s upcoming moves for Ice Cream Sandwich: "Though Motorola might have the updates ready six weeks after the official launch, wireless carriers could decide to take their time pushing out Ice Cream Sandwich."

Ice Cream Sandwich has introduced a number of new specifications to Android, including powering both tablets and smartphones, a new custom typeface called Robato, a completely touch screen user-interface, a lock screen featuring Face Unlock, and Android Beam technology that allows users to share information by touching their phones together.

Motorola will announce more details on Ice Cream Sandwich within the next six weeks after the operating system’s official release. Motorola's new smartphones are also set to be released soon.
