'Insidious: Chapter 4' Confirmed, Lin Shayne Returning to Reprise Role as Parapsychologist Elise Rainier

Good news for all horror-thrill seekers. Blumhouse Productions has confirmed that they will be adding another installment in their famous horror series "Insidious."

According to a report by The Wrap, Universal Studios announced that they will be releasing "Insidious: Chapter 4" in 2017. The date has also been specified already which is going to be on Oct. 20, a schedule that the studio previously reserved for an untitled project.

The film will be getting a new director, though. The first two movies in the franchise were directed by James Wan ("The Conjuring") while the latest one was directed by Leigh Whannell ("Saw").

As detailed in Deadline, Adam Robitel of horror-possession film "The Taking of Deborah Logan" will be taking over the director's chair. Wan and Whannel will still be involved but this time just as a producer and writer respectively.

Reports also cited that a familiar face will be returning to the scene. According to IGN, actress Lin Shaye will be coming back to reprise her role as the parapsychologist Elise Rainier who helped the protagonists parents Josh Lambert (Patrick Wilson) and Renai Lambert (Rose Byrne) in the first movie. But since Shaye's character ended in demise in the first part, the fourth film is predicted to be another prequel version just like in the third movie.

"Insidious: Chapter 3" featured Elise's story and how she was able to learn about The Further, which is a scary place that exists between life and death. She helped teenager Quinn Brenner, played by Stefanie Scott, get her life back after a powerful demon stole her soul away. Shaye was also able to appear in the second film but as a spectral presence.

There is no word yet on what the fourth film will be about so anything can happen. Fans will have to watch out for more details and updates soon.
