Internet Evangelist Says 200,000 Promise to Write in Jesus for President

Political Science Expert Dismisses Use of Demonizing Rhetoric

An Internet evangelist who is advocating that Christians vote for Jesus as a write-in candidate says he has more than 200,000 people who have committed to do so. However, a political science expert believes the evangelist's demonizing rhetoric about both candidates is not Christ-like.

Bill Keller, who runs LivePrayer.com and offers a daily devotional read by more than 2.4 million subscribers, said Christians face a difficult dilemma this November.

"It is literally Satan flipping a two-headed coin with his head on both sides. How can a Christian in good conscience vote for President Obama, who has proven to be the most pro-baby killing, pro-radical homosexual, pro-enemy of Israel President in our nation's history," Keller stated in a "Vote for Jesus" campaign update.

"On the other hand, how can a Christian in good conscience vote for Mitt Romney, a 5th generation member and priest of the Satanic Mormon cult," he added. "His Presidency would give his cult the mainstream acceptance they have always wanted since being founded 200 years ago by a documented con-artist, racist, pedophile, polygamist, and murderer named Joseph Smith."

Amy Black, an associate professor of political science at Wheaton College and author of the newly released book, Honoring God in Red or Blue: Approaching Politics with Humility, Grace, and Reason, said she doesn't agree with Keller's categorization of the election.

"I don't view our choice in November as 'literally Satan flipping a two-headed coin with his head on both sides,'" she told The Christian Post on Monday. "Christians should carefully weigh their choices and evaluate both candidates. Some may decide in conscience that they cannot support either one. But using such demonizing rhetoric does little to encourage God-honoring politics."

Black believes Christians need to do a better job of honoring God in their political activism. One of the reasons she wrote the book was because of her concern about the tone of contemporary politics.

"There's so much attack, so much exaggeration and distortions, sometimes even done in the name of Christ. I want to call Christians to a different approach," she said during a recent interview with CP about her book. "I want to encourage them to be humble instead of arrogant, and to show that we can disagree and still be gracious. In other words, I want us to be humble and thoughtful witnesses for Christ."

When asked for her opinion about the proclamation made by some Christians that a political compromise is the same as compromising their principles, Black answered:

"I agree that we need to be very careful about compromising principles. And I don't want anyone to think that I'm telling them to compromise their principles. However, politics is ultimately about compromise in the sense that it is about coming together, searching for a solution with different individuals with different interests seeking a way forward. Everyone comes with their ideals and no one usually leaves 100 percent pleased. But through compromise and bargaining, people can find a way that moves in a positive direction even if it doesn't reach the end goal."

She added that Christians saying, "'I cannot work with you, I cannot compromise with you, I'm not willing to be at the table,' makes it harder to get anything accomplished."

"So if we want to work through government (and it may not be wise to work through the government on every issue), that process is about bargaining, that process is about compromise, and that's the only way it really works."

In a YouTube video, Keller says his answer to the election is to have Christians write in the name of Jesus for president. He believes that this is "a real opportunity for Christians to take a stand for their faith, say no to Satan's two choices for President by voting for Jesus, and make a statement to the nation that the problems in this nation aren't political, they are spiritual, and the only answer is to turn back to Jesus and Biblical Truth."
