iPad 3 Release Date to Be on March 16

The iPad 3 is scheduled to be unveiled on March 7 at an Apple media event so its release date should take place no more than a week later.

An Apple retail location recently provided a hint to the actual date the device will drop.

The company was set to open a store in Houston in the Highland village shopping center located at Westheimer and Drexel in January. However, that grand opening was pushed back to March 17 due to construction issues.

Now an inside source is stating that the stores opening was bumped back a day to March 16 which could possibly be due to the release of the iPad 3 on that date.

To open a retail location one day after the release of a major product just would not make any sense and opening on a product launch would bring a lot of attention to the store.

Apple also normally opens its stores on Saturdays, but now it seems like the company is making a special exception for this Houston location.

The iPad 3 launching on March 16 would synchronize well with the media event where the company will be unveiling the long awaited tablet. The iPad 2 was launched nine days after its unveiling so Apple would continue in the same cycle if it decided to drop the device when this store opens its doors.

The Highland Village location will feature a similar design to the company's Upper West Side Store in Manhattan. Apple is also building stores with this blueprint in other cities such as Santa Monica and Palo Alto, Ca.

The design features an all-glass roof with entrances in the front and back.

The Highland Village location will also be the first in the Houston area to be outside of a shopping mall.
