After the iPad 3 release conference Wednesday, many iPad 2 owners looking to upgrade are stuck with one looming question: how do I sell my iPad 2 and get an iPad 3?
There are a number of ways to trade up the year-old iPad 2 for the newer iPad 3 come it's release date March 16. Most of those ways consist of internet trade-ins, although the traditional face-to-face can net you more money, depending on your situation.
The easiest way is through website Gazelle.com. Gazelle buys good condition iPads, iPad 2s and various other types of technology. For a used 64GB iPad 2 with Wi-Fi and 3G, they will buy it for $330. The lowest end model iPad 2 with 16 GB and only Wi-Fi can be purchased for $240.
One of Gazelle's best features is their willingness to purchase completely broken iPad 2s for $80 hands down. They will also send you the shipping labels, box, and pay you via PayPal, Amazon gift card, or a check- your choice.
While Gazelle may be the most convenient way, eBay is most likely the best bet to get the most money. The a 64GB iPad with Wi-Fi and 3G can be sold for up to $425, while the 16GB goes for $250. In those cases, though you would have to deal with shipping and handling fees.
Craigslist presents a similar chance to make a good amount of money, but with more chances to meet someone for the transaction. As always, anyone should be careful when meeting a buyer, but that added convenience of a personal drop-off and inspection before buying can put people at ease. Peace of mind can drive up the price of a sold iPad 2 to $425 or $250 for the 64GB and 16GB models, respectively.
Finally is Apple's reseller program, which takes only good-functioning iPad 2s, and most likely, for far less than you can get on other sites. In addition, they only offer Apple credits.
Since the unveiling of Apple's iPad 3, the iPad 2 has dropped in price, now starting $100 cheaper at $399.
The new iPad will start at $499 for the lowest grade model. It will be available on AT&T and Verizon, and pre-orders start Wednesday.
