iPad 5 Release Date Coming Soon as 'Space Grey' Rear Shell Leaks

The iPad 5 release date should be coming soon as a rear shell used for the device's body leaked this week.

The pictures of the component were posted by Australian write Sonny Dickson and they also depict some of the internal parts of the tablet. The leak seems pretty legit as Apple just launched its new iPhone 5S in this same exact color.

A shell for the next-gen iPad mini also leaked in this same color last week.

The release date for the device could be as early as next month as the company is expected to unveil the new device in October.

There have been several leaks of the tablet's rear shells over the past few months, with most of them being a silver color. A Japanese parts retailer posted up the first picture of the component in a new space grey color this week.

Another report from C Technology claimed that the new iPad mini will be coming in this color. It also stated that the full-sized iPad will also be released in this color. Both devices will also come in gold and silver.

A recent research note published by KGI Securities Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the full-sized iPad and iPad mini 2 will come with Apple's new A7X chip. This is a significant upgrade for the smaller model that used an A5 in the original version. The chip will also help support the Retina display that will be found in both new models.

Kuo predicts that component shipments for the devices will ramp up towards the end of this quarter, with mass production for the device gearing up in the fourth quarter. This falls in line with previous rumors regarding a fall launch for both tablets.

He originally believed that Apple was going to release the iPad mini 2 in early 2014, but now says Apple has sped up its development in order to compete with other small high-resolution tablets hitting the market. The main additions to the mini tablet will be the Retina display and new processor.
