iPhone 5 Release Date: 5 Reasons Why Apple Hurt Itself With iPhone 4S

Apple has announced the release of the new iPhone 4S yesterday at the company’s “Let’s Talk iPhone” media event, which was a disappointing outcome to those expecting the tear-drop shaped iPhone 5.

By not unveiling a redesigned iPhone, Apple left the playing field open for competitors such as Android to move in and gain market share. Smartphones such as the Samsung Galaxy S2 are already flying off shelves and with Apple letting its audience down by releasing nothing but an updated iPhone 4. Many disgruntled consumers are likely to purchase an Android smartphone rather than settle for what many perceive is a half-hearted release from Apple.

Siri: The Assistant

The new Siri voice navigation featured on Apple’s iOS 5 seemed like one of the company’s biggest selling points on its new devices. But those who own iPhone 4’s can gain access to a similar features by downloading apps such as Dragon Go or Vlingo.

iPhone 4S

Yes, Apple did beef up what is underneath the hood on the iPhone 4, making it faster and adding a much more powerful camera, but unfortunately this just is not enough to get people excited about purchasing a new iPhone. It has been over a year since the iPhone 4’s release, and Android along with Windows are running on more and more powerful devices at this time. Apple’s stock plunged yesterday thanks to disappointing news shooting down the iPhone 5 rumors. The public seems to want something fresh, and that is not what they received.

No Steve Jobs

The savior of Apple was not present at yesterday’s event. The iPhone 4S announcement was not only disappointing in itself, but also missed the bar by not being made by the company’s iPhone announcement pioneer. Tim Cook and the rest of the gang did a good job, but the nostalgia was missing without Jobs.

Where is the iPhone 5?

The public has been hearing about this redesigned tear-drop shaped device from Apple for quite some time now. Not only did the company not release a new smartphone under the name iPhone 5, it also did not even mention or touch on the rumors of a redesigned iPhone. Well there is always 2012. Maybe that is what Apple is waiting for.
