iPhone 5 Release Date: Apple to Unveil Feature-Packed iPhones Today

Apple is expected to launch at least one new version of its widely popular iPhone in California today, with many commentators even expecting two to be unveiled.

Apple enthusiasts have been anticipating what exactly a new iPhone would feature and have been patiently waiting to find out if a new version of the device will actually be announced at Apples “Let’s Talk iPhone Event” today.

The event is due to start at 10:00 a.m. PDT. The launch will be hosted by Tim Cook, Apple’s new CEO. Some reports suspect that Steve Jobs, Apple’s former CEO might also make an appearance at today’s event.

Many have been speculating that a new version of the iPhone would offer a speech-to-text functionality due to the title of the event that alludes to “talk.”

Just what type of new gadgets and features a new iPhone would have is divided by expert opinion.

Ben Wood, director of research at analysts CCS Insight told the BBC that, “We’re expecting a flagship, high tier product to cement the iPhone’s position as the must-have device.”

Others speculate that another more budget friendly version of the iPhone 4 will also be launched at the event.

As of now, it seems pretty certain that a new version will indeed be unveiled today as last week a rumor had spread all over IT websites that a head of China Unicom alluded to the fact that a new phone would offer faster internet using HSPA+ in a meeting.

Other people are speculating what different types of features a new iPhone would have suggesting that it would likely come with a larger screen size and would be a “world phone,” meaning that if would feature a SIM card slot so that users could insert their SIM cards from different countries.

If Apple chooses to unveil its new phone today, die-hard Apple fans wills still have to wait a few weeks before the device actually hits the market. Some reports suggest that the device will finally come out on the market around the 14th or 15th of October.
