iPhone 5 Release on Sprint and T-Mobile Could Make it Most-Popular Smartphone Ever

Recent reports have indicated that the iPhone 5 may become Apple's best ever selling smartphone when it is released.

In particular, RBC Capital Markets analyst Mike Abramsky has issued a new report detailing that the demand for the iPhone 5 is at an “unprecedented” high.

Compared to a 25 percent demand for the iPhone 4 in June 2010, preceding its release, a survey of 2,200, conducted in August indicates that 31 percent of respondents are either very likely or somewhat likely to purchase an iPhone 5.

The report notes that the back-to-school rush is one of the main motivators for the increase in demand.

The fairly long 15-16 month gap since the iPhone 4 release has also been noted.

The report found that 66 percent of existing iPhone users are very likely or somewhat likely to upgrade to the iPhone 5.

Rumors have been buzzing that the iPhone has acquired Sprint and T-Mobile as its latest carriers. Customers of those carriers have indicated that they are 50-55 percent "significantly" or "somewhat" more likely to purchase the device if it was to be offered by their network.

Website, TUAW reported that a Sprint Nextel associate has revealed that the iPhone 5 will debut with the network in early 2012.

The Christian Post contacted Sprint regarding Apple products coming to the network. Scott Sloat, a spokesman for the company told CP, “We don’t comment on rumors or speculation.”

Rumors also indicate that the iPhone 5 will be fairly affordable and may be priced within the same range as the current iPhone 4.

There also remains a possibility that Apple will release two iPhones in the fall, one successor to the iPhone 4 and another cheaper prepaid model.

Speculation indicates that the iPhone 5 will be available in stores in late September or early October.
