Redesigned Earphones for the iPhone 5

The iPhone 5 will launch with earphones featuring a new design.

A Vietnamese site recently posted a video that shows these redesigned earphones that will come in the box with the next-generation iPhone. The accessory was reportedly designed in California and assembled in Vietnam.

They are specifically designed to not come apart the way older earbuds sometimes do and they resemble horse heads.

The iPhone will also receive a drastic redesign, according to many reports.

New photos of the iPhone 5 show that the next-generation model has received a height increase.

High-quality pictures of the device's front panel surfaced this week and reportedly came from a Chinese parts distributor known as SINOCET.

One of the shots show a frontal view of the assembled front panel next to the same part from an iPhone 4S. This shows how Apple has been able to minimize the overall increase in device height by shrinking the top and bottom margins to compensate for the impact of the taller screen.

In other iPhone 5-related news, the device will not come equipped with an NFC (near-field-communications) chip.

AnandTech has ruled out the possibility of Apple bringing this feature to the new iPhone due to some of the photos leaked showing the backing of the device.

"Given the primarily metal backside of the new iPhone, it's highly unlikely that NFC is in the cards for this generation. In fact, given the very little space at top and bottom dedicated to those glass RF windows, you can almost entirely rule it out," wrote the site.

Jim Dalrymple, another Apple insider, also weighed in on the matter, saying that AnandTech's assumption was correct. NFC will most likely not appear in the new iPhone.

These reports come as somewhat of a surprise as recent programs released by Apple have pointed to the company installing NFC chips in their next-generation devices.
