The iPhone 6 August release date was revealed by various media reports, with many pointing to iPhones with larger screens. Apple has moved up the date of their extremely popular smartphone by one month, as they usually release their phones, tablets and new operating systems in September.

The iPhone 6 August release date was revealed by Taiwan's Economic Daily News, who said they received their information from supply chain manufacturers. However, it's unknown if the U.S. or other markets will be the first to have the latest iPhone in stores.

The 4.7-inch version of the iPhone 6 will be the first to be released, according to reports. Then, an even bigger smartphone heading into the phablet category will be released in September, with that version measuring 5.5 inches. Another report stated that Apple suppliers are calling the 5.5-inch model the "iPhone Air," and would join the line-up that also consists of an iPad Air and a MacBook Air.

Apple had reportedly been struggling to find a sufficient battery that measures at 2 mm or less that will fit the device's "very thin" profile, according to a new report from Taiwan's Industrial and Commercial Times. Those issues seem to have been solved, however.

The iPhone's increase in screen size from 4 inches to 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches could help the Cupertino, California-based company regain market share from Samsung, whose Galaxy S5, Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note 3 have gobbled up consumers looking for additional media options. In additional, less well known handsets like the HTC One M8 are also becoming more competitive with bigger screens and similar unibody structures.
