iPhone 7 News: New iPhone May Feature Wireless Charging According to Patent Application

The new Apple iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were just released recently, but rumors about the next Apple flagship phone have been surfacing lately.

The iPhone 7 is rumored to have a wireless charging feature, according to the patent application that Apple submitted to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office.

The wireless charging feature is said to work by using metal coils that are the same as the ones existing in the newest iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, according to iDigital Times' report. Apple is planning to utilize the coil that allows iPhone devices to vibrate, in order to be able to charge the iPhone 7 wirelessly. The method is said to induce electric currents, which will activate the wireless charging feature of the phone.

The Inductive Power Transfer Using Acoustic or Haptic Devices, which is the name of the Apple's new patent, is expected to be one of the main selling points of the iPhone 7. Other companies like LG, Sony, and Samsung are already using the wireless charging technology, and iPhone 7 will probably be Apple's first device to successfully use it.

It has been noted before that wireless charging did not work for iPhone 6 last year because of the smartphone's aluminum casing. According to the International Business Times, it may now work this time since Qualcomm has now unveiled a technology that makes it possible for wireless charging through metal.

Besides the iPhone 7, Apple will also be using this new technology on their other devices, such as the Apple iPad, Apple Watch, and MacBook.

This new update about Apple is not the first time that the company has tried to test other technologies on its devices. Two years ago, Apple tried exploring NFC features, but failed to include it on the iPhone 6 release.
