A report from China Labor Watch claiming poor working conditions inside Pegatron, one of Apple's assembly partners, has seemingly confirmed rumors about a "plastic iPhone," which is believed to be named the iPhone 5C, and which is also labeled as being released "soon."
"Today's work is to paste protective film on the iPhone's plastic back cover to prevent it from being scratched on assembly lines. This iPhone model with a plastic cover will soon be released on the market by Apple," said a quote in the report provided by a worker, whose role was to apply protective film onto the rear shell of the device.
Also a new image leak from Chinese iPhone site WeiPhone has been spreading across the Internet, showing a box full of iPhone 5C plastic shells.
The rectangular-shaped cases in the leaked image is assumed to be the box in which the new iPhone 5C will come housed in. On the side of the cases are the words "iPhone 5C," leading many to believe that this will be the name of the budget iPhone.
Rumors have been spreading that Apple's next iPhone will be either the iPhone 6, iPhone 5S or a budget version perhaps called the iPhone Lite. Evidence of a budget version has been gaining increasing traction over recent weeks online, especially on Chinese websites.
The iPhone Lite or iPhone 5C has been rumored to come in a plastic casing, and be available in multiple colors, but will closely resemble the iPhone 5, matching with the recent leaked photos and reports.
If the new image is proven to be real iPhone lovers can expect that one of Apple's new devices will likely be a budget iPhone being called the iPhone 5C, instead of the iPhone Lite.
Speculation is that the "C" stands for "color," as the phone is expected to be available in a variety of colors.
After the new photos emerged, a source to Business Insider has also claimed that the name the iPhone 5C is correct, and that the "C" will stand for "Color." That source claims that the iPhone 5C will be launched along with the iPhone 5S.
