ISIS News 2017: Three Men Charged for Plotting to Terrorize New York City

Three men who are ISIS advocates have been arrested for planning attacks on New York City.

The three men were planning to terrorize New York City by executing ISIS-inspired attacks on the subway system and concert landmarks, the Independent reports. They have been identified as Abdulrahman el Bahnasawy, Talha Haroon, and Russel Salic.

El Bahnasawy is a 19-year old Canadian citizen, who allegedly gathered the materials needed to create a bomb and assembled them in a cabin located within driving distance to New York.

Meanwhile, Haroon, also 19 years old, is said to be El Bahnasawy's partner who currently resides in Pakistan. Haroon was planning to fly to New York to help El Bahnasawy execute the attacks.

On the other hand, Salic, a 37-year-old Pakistani residing in the Philippines, allegedly funded El Bahnasawy and Haroon's plans.

The case has been ongoing for more than a year already, with El Bahnasawy being arrested in March last year, pleading guilty to seven charges. However, the arrest made on the trio was only revealed last Friday when it was confirmed that no one else was an accomplice to their plans.

El Bahnasawy, Haroon, and Salic have been charged with multiple crimes and will be facing life sentences. El Bahnasawy is already in police custody, while Salic and Haroon have yet to be extracted from their current countries of residence to be brought in front of a U.S. court.

The trio was prevented from executing their plans to attack New York City because of an undercover agent from Federal Bureau of Investigation who pretended to be an ISIS supporter and came in contact with them.

According to ABC News, El Bahnasawy shared with the undercover agent wanted to recreate the 9/11 attack and wanted to target concerts so a lot of people can be killed. The trio also talked about blowing up a car in Times Square.
