ISIS News: Terror Group Eyeing Attacks on U.S. This Year, Intelligence Officials Say

The fear that Islamic State forces is instilling in the hearts of Syrians has finally reached the United States as a top intelligence official said on Tuesday that the terror group is looking to attack the country this year.

According to CNN, Lt. Gen. Vincent Stewart, director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, told the audience at the Capitol Hill that the terrorists "will probably attempt to conduct additional attacks in Europe, and attempt to direct attacks on the U.S. homeland in 2016."

The bad news doesn't stop there. It turns out that ISIS isn't done with its propaganda of fueling fear among people around the world. James Clapper, director of National Intelligence, added that there are more terrorists existing in various countries around the world "than at any time in history," resonating Stewart's statement that there will be more attempts to attack people in the coming months.

Clapper went on to explain that the ISIS has various ways of hiding its forces in the midst of civilians not only in Syria but in other regions as well. The extremists are said to be making use of fake passports, in order to infiltrate other countries safely and without being tagged as illegal in their countries of destination.

To make their passports look real, the jihadists have reportedly taken control of Syrian passport facilities that produce passports. The strategy has allowed for ISIS fighters to enter other countries shaded.

Aside from possible attacks similar to the fate that Paris experienced late last year, Clapper also mentioned the imminence of cyber attacks. According to USA Today, he said Russia and China, as well as North Korea and Iran, can also initiate conflict with the United States.

The official noted that Moscow's latest stint against Ukraine is something that the United States should be very careful of. Clapper said the Ukraine attack serves as a wakeup call to the United States — a call that says Russia is capable of the same power and strength that the world's most powerful country has.
