'Jack Reacher 2' News: Release Date Could Be Delayed Due to Tom Cruise's Busy Schedule

Though "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" has been slated for a 2016 release, it is reported that the film could be pushed back due to Cruise's busy filming schedule. The actor is currently filming the fifth installment of the "Mission Impossible" franchise.

Cruise will reportedly be back to reprise his role in the movie, titled "Jack Reacher: Never Go Back" which, according to Deadline, sees Jack going back to his old military base in Virginia to take the new commanding officer, Major Susan Turner, out to dinner. But upon reaching the base, she has been arrested, then Jack is accused with homicide.

The plot thickens when Jack is also said to father a child with a woman he barely knows.

"Never Go Back" is based on the Jack Reacher book of the same title written by Lee Child. Slashfilm reports that the book features a very smart teenage girl who could easily take a bigger role on the film than she does in the book, and it could draw a bigger movie audience, especially if the producers make a wise decision when it comes to casting.

Though there has been no other information on the movie on its IMDB page, it is easy to imagine the role of the aforementioned teenager played by any of the following stars:

Emma Watson, who can easily carry off the sassy yet smart vibe needed for the role; Hailee Steinfeld, an actual teenager who can certainly hold her own starring alongside Cruise; or Chloe Grace Moretz, who is comfortable doing action scenes while retaining the vulnerability of a teen girl.

Last year, it has been reported that "Jack Reacher" has been greenlit for a sequel. Despite the fact that the film reportedly made below $80 million in the U.S. box office, it did well internationally as it made a total of $218 million. It's clear that the Tom Cruise magic is alive and well overseas, so a second "Jack Reacher" makes sense for the producers.
