Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony announced their divorce after seven years of marriage in a joint statement last week. The couple, who have 3 year-old-twins Max and Emme together, appears to be working affably through the “very difficult decision.”

“It is a painful time for all involved, and we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time,” the joint statement said.

Fans of the star duo were left shocked by the break-up, despite rumors of marriage trouble arising after Lopez appeared at an event honoring the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge without her husband on July 9.

The couple wed at a quiet at-home ceremony in 2004. It was Lopez’s third marriage and Anthony’s second.

Lopez recently announced that she will remain a judge on the 11th season of American Idol. The singer-actress also has a number of projects scheduled for the future that involve Anthony.

Anthony and Lopez each created designs for men and women in a fashion line for “Kohl’s” that will debut this fall, and the couple’s Latin reality show Que Viva is still scheduled for recording later this year.
