'Jesus Chant' by St Xavier High School Football Fans Upsets Coach

It seems Cincinnati, Ohio Catholic high school football team, St. Xavier, had more than just skill and luck on their side – they had Jesus.

On Sept. 9, St. Xavier faced off with their hometown rivals the Cincinnati Colerain in a heated and close matchup with the score 17-14 in favor of St. Xavier in the dying moment. The score was an upset by St. Xavier as they were ranked no. 26 in the country compared to Colerain's no. 8 placement.

As with any sporting event, there were a lot of jabs going back and forth between the fans. However, after Colerain missed a game tying field goal as the clock moved closer to the end of the game, the most unlikely of chants began.

The Colerain student side of the field had been chanting "We've got girls!"

However, once the win was ensured, the St. Xavier side started chanting "We've got Jesus!"

This angered Colerain but perhaps the most upset person was head coach Tom Bolden. In a statement to The Cincinnati Enquirer, Bolden said "That's where I draw the line. [The St. Xavier student section] ought to be embarrassed."

However, many spectators and fellow students did not seem to consider the chanting to be much of a big deal, but others saw it as just plain disrespectful.

One student speaking anonymously wrote into Yahoo News to weigh in on the situation: "The sad reality of this situation is that our entire faculty has absolutely handcuffed us in terms of what we are and aren't allowed to chant because they are so worried about our public relations, and the chants that our student section chant are nothing compared to what the teams we play are able to say to us."

He goes on to talk about how unfair it is for them because of all the trash talk they get from other schools. Saying they have Jesus on their side should be the least offensive of all.
