Author Sally Lloyd-Jones, a Briton born in Uganda who moved to the United States in 1989, told The Christian Post that she felt "totally gobsmacked" and "blown away" by the news.

"I have no doubt at all who the author of this book's success is and I give Him all the praise. I also know that without all the readers who have placed their trust in me … we never would have reached this milestone," she added.

"And then, of course, there is Jago who illustrated it. Without him we wouldn't even be having this conversation!"

Originally published in 2007, The Jesus Storybook Bible has not only garnered high sales but also high praise, winning Moonbeam Award Gold Medal for the religion category.

The children's storybook Bible was also recently named on the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association Top 100 Bestsellers of 2015 list, Zonderkidz publishers told CP.

"From Noah to Moses to the great King David — every story points to Him. He is like the missing piece in a puzzle — the piece that makes all the other pieces fit together. From the Old Testament through the New Testament, as the story unfolds, children will pick up the clues and piece together the puzzle," reads the Amazon description.

"A Bible like no other, The Jesus Storybook Bible invites children to join in the greatest of all adventures, to discover for themselves that Jesus is at the center of God's great story of salvation — and at the center of their story too."

An author of other works, Lloyd-Jones told CP that while "in terms of numbers" The Jesus Storybook Bible is the most successful, she is looking at other measures for success also.

"I have a picture book, How to be a Baby by me the Big Sister that is a New York Times bestseller which is also thrilling. But I do also believe this: that if one of my books reaches even one child and helps bring joy to their heart, or more light to their world — then that is the best kind of success there could be," said Lloyd-Jones.

"I hope that all of my books are successful by that standard. That is the most important success I could aim for."
