Jim Rebhorn Obituary Thanks Parents for Raising Him to 'Stay in Touch With God'

Actor James Rebhorn passed away on March 21 and left behind an obituary thanking his parents for raising him to know God. Rebhorn died at the age of 65 after battling melanoma since 1992.

"James Robert Rebhorn was born on Sept. 1, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA. His mother, Ardell Frances Rebhorn, nee Hoch, loved him very much and supported all his dreams. She taught him the value of good manners and courtesy, and that hospitality is no small thing," Rebhorn wrote. "His father, James Harry Rebhorn, was no less devoted to him. They gave him his faith and wisely encouraged him to stay in touch with God."

Rebhorn, a veteran actor, most recently starred on HBO's hit series, "Homeland," with Claire Danes. He played her bipolar father and helped explain his daughter's behavior. He also appeared on "Law & Order," "Enlightened," and "White Collar." Rebhorn loved working on the big and small screen and was also a stage actor.

Rebhorn offered advice to his wife, Rebecca, and daughters Emma and Hannah in their time of grief.

"They deal with grief differently, and they should each manage it as they see fit. He hopes, however, that they will grieve his passing only as long as necessary. They have much good work to do, and they should get busy doing it. Time is flying by," he wrote.

Rebhorn is survived by his wife, daughters, a son-in-law, as well as aunts, cousins and their own families. The actor wanted his family to know how much they were loved and cherished, and his obituary was the last way he could say so. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in New Jersey and died at home, surrounded by his family.

According to his obituary, listed on St. Paul's website, Rebhorn asked that people make donations to the church, the Actors Fund, or the Appalachian Mountain Club.
