When in doubt buy a shotgun, Vice President Joe Biden said during a recent Facebook conference, speaking in support of President Obama's attempt to ban assault weapons.
President Obama has argued, in an attempt to promote a ban on military assault weapons, including a 10-round limit for magazines, that "weapons of war have no place on the street." Concerned citizens, however, have responded by saying that such a ban could prevent citizens from being able to protect themselves in dire situations. Joe Biden has a solution for everyone.
"Buy a shotgun," the Vice President said during a town hall conference on Facebook. Biden was responding to a question from Parents Magazine.
After admitting that he too was a subscriber of the magazine, Biden suggested that no one needs an "AR-15" semi-automatic rifle or "30 rounds of ammunition" in order to protect themselves.
"If you want to protect yourself, get a double barrel shotgun," Biden suggested, recommending 12-gauge shells. He also shared a method that he has advised his own wife with.
"If there is ever a problem just walk out on the balcony and put that double barrel shotgun and fire two blasts outside the house," Biden recommended. "You don't need an AR-15."
Biden also argued that an AR-15 is harder to aim and harder to use.
"Buy a shotgun, buy a shotgun," Biden repeated.
Internet users said that Biden's solution might not be the best one, pointing out that shotguns can "only carry two shells" and are actually "harder to handle." It is also illegal to shoot a shotgun within city limits.
"As a single gun owning mother I was shocked hear the advise the Vice President gave parents on this," one woman responded on an ABC blog. "He put his wife in danger by telling her to go outside, he put her in danger having her waste her ammo with a warning shot, he just got her arrested if she is in the city limits for firing a weapon within city limits, he just got her potentially injured when a 12 guage knocks her on her butt, then he gets her attacked while she is on the ground helpless."
