John Cena Addresses Speculations About WWE Retirement

After losing to Roman Reigns at Sunday night's No Mercy pay-per-view, many wondered if John Cena would finally retire from the WWE. When he was asked about it, the WWE legend said he was not retiring, though "things are different now."

Cena faced Reigns for the first time in the wrestling ring on Sunday evening and took everyone by surprise when he ended up on the losing end. After the fight, Cena, who obviously could not believe he had lost to the WWE's Big Dog, made an extremely long curtain call and concluded it by saluting his fans. As he headed to the back, fans felt that his extended farewell to the audience might have meant something else other than a simple goodbye. To some, it hinted that Cena could be retiring from wrestling to probably pursue other things.

On the Raw Talk post-show on the WWE Network, Cena dropped by to share his thoughts about the fight and his loss. He also addressed speculations that he was retiring from the WWE.

During the interview, Raw Talk's Renee Young asked Cena about what happened after the match ended, which she said was "pretty eerily reminiscent of Roman Reigns and The Undertaker at WrestleMania—this goodbye you seemed to have in the ring."

According to Cena, he was not saying goodbye to the WWE just yet but stated his role would be different.

"I had a podcast with Edge and Christian and I said the same thing. Regardless of whether I had outside opportunities or not, I'm 40 years old, and I have 15 years of track experience here in the WWE. And not at a normal level. At an elite level. And I don't know how [much] longer I can keep it up," said Cena.

Cena added that if opportunities from outside came knocking on his door, that would be fine. He said he was not yet done with the WWE but admitted that if he continued to go at the same pace, he should start thinking things over.

"So I guess I'll be like a weird Batman character. When they shine the light, I'll come a-runnin'," he concluded.
