The holidays have proven to be a romantic time for many. Britney Spears and Trawick have announced their engagement as well as Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves. Dave Haywood proposed to girlfriend Kelli Cashiola and rumors have it that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel may have also followed suit.

Legend and Teigen have been dating since 2007 and became engaged while vacationing in the Maldives, according to a report by US Weekly.

Legend, 32, is an R&B singer from Ohio. His 2004 debut album “Get Lifted” made it to number seven on Billboard charts in 2004 and later became platinum.

His now fiancee, Chrissy Teigen, 26, has modeled for Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Maxim, Billabong, Fredericks of Hollywood, and Victoria's Secret. She also starred on the game show “Deal or No Deal.”

A 2005 study by ABC reported that one in four grooms have proposed to their bride over the holiday season.

December has also been declared the most popular month to purchase engagement rings, according to data from National Jeweler Magazine. The magazine reports that 12 percent of rings are sold.

The Fairchild Bridal Group reported that 19 percent of all engagements take place in December.

“I think people do want to give the ultimate gift for the holidays,” said Amanda Gizzi, spokeswoman for Jewelers of America. “What’s a more ultimate gift than an engagement ring?”

Although the idea of the perfect gift might be tempting, Relationship Expert and Clinical Psychologist Seth Meyers has cautioned against the idea.

“You have to factor in the relative anxiety level that the person in your life may have in their life at that point in time,” he said.
