John Mayer Felt 'Terrible' About Taylor Swift's 'Cheap' Song

John Mayer has spoken out about Taylor Swift's song "Dear John," saying it made him "feel terrible" and even commented on the quality of the writing.

Although Swift has not confirmed that the song was about the now-34-year-old singer, Mayer addressed the song's lyrics.

"I didn't deserve it," said the Grammy Award-winning singer speaking to Rolling Stone magazine.

Mayer recently admitted wrongdoing following the release of his new album, "Born and Raised," and revealed that his absence from the media over the past year had to with reflection and personal growth.

"I'm pretty good at taking accountability now, and I never did anything to deserve that," Mayer pointed out, referring to the song by Swift. "It was a really lousy thing for her to do."

Swift, 22, is well known for her song lyrics, and has explained that writing music is much like writing in her diary. Found on her 2010 album "Speak Now," "Dear John" was released shortly after the country music star was romantically linked to Mayer.

"Dear John, I see it all now it was wrong / Don't you think nineteen's too young to be played with / Your dark twisted games when I loved you so / I should have known," Swift sings on the track.

"I never got an email, I never got a phone call," continued Mayer of the song, according to Rolling Stone. "I was really caught off-guard, and it really humiliated me at a time when I'd already been dressed down. I mean, how would you feel if, at the lowest you've ever been, someone kicked you even lower?"

Mayer was also displeased with the quality of the song.

"As a songwriter … I think it's kind of cheap songwriting," said the singer. "I know she's the biggest thing in the world, and I'm not trying to sink anybody's ship, but I think it's abusing your talent and to rub your hands together and go, 'Wait till he gets a load of this!' That's bull----."

The music video for "Dear John" has over 300,000 views on YouTube as well as several comments pertaining to the song's content.

"What on earth did Taylor see in John Mayer," asked one user. "His decent music doesn't make up for his ugly personality."

Lauren wrote, "He makes out that she is in the wrong yet when they ask him about the line 'don't you think I was too young" it says 'Mayer says, 'I don't want to go into that.'"

Jon defended Mayer, writing, "Listen to John Mayer['s] music not his tabloid and media bull---- he's a musical genius!"
