Jordin Sparks: 'I Hope' Jason DeRulo Proposes Marriage

Jordin Sparks recently opened up about her relationship with Jason DeRulo. The singer revealed that the couple often has discussions about marriage, prompting speculation of a potential engagement.

DeRulo, 23, confirmed his relationship with the "Sparkle" star in January shortly after fracturing his neck, which almost caused him to become paralyzed. Sparks, 22, admitted that such a life-changing event motivated their decisions to begin talks about marriage.

"It's not a conversation that we're scared about. Before, we both went through tragedies this year -- he broke his neck and then ["Sparkle" costar] Whitney [Houston] passed- so before it might have been a little too crazy," Sparks told Us magazine.

"You really see the people you love and you go, I don't want to lose you. So, it's a conversation we have, but we're not in a rush," she went on.

Sparks confirmed that although she is not yet engaged to DeRulo, but that she is anticipating a proposal in the future.

"I hope he does!" Sparks said. "It's not happening yet, but I hope so!"

DeRulo, who rose to stardom in 2009 with his debut single "Whatcha Say," appears to be equally as fond of his girlfriend.

The singer fractured one of his vertebrae while practicing choreography for his tour in January and he gushed about having Sparks by his side to speed up his recovery.

"We are together. [Jordin] lives in Phoenix and she comes [to Miami] and takes care of me, brings me breakfast in bed and she'll go on walks with me," DeRulo told People.com at the time.

"We've gotten closer because of my accident. It's awesome to have someone you can talk to and she's a wonderful person," he went on.

Shortly after DeRulo's injury, Sparks was faced with her own devastating news regarding the death of Houston, who died on Feb. 11. The singer broke down and "completely lost it" emotionally.

"My publicist knocked on the door and said: 'Whitney is gone.' I said: 'What? You mean we are not going to do the carpet? That's fine.' And she said: 'No, Whitney passed.' And I lost all feeling," Sparks told Metro U.K.

"I couldn't move, couldn't say anything – I don't even think I was breathing. I said: 'You're lying. That's the worst rumor I've ever heard in my life.' So she turned on CNN, the newscaster started talking about it and I completely lost it," she explained.
